Getting older has both its upsides and downsides, but few would argue that skin changes are one of the upsides. Lines and wrinkles can have a negative effect on both our social and work lives and can greatly affect our self-confidence as well. Botox Southlake is a safe and well-tested therapy that has proven to be effective for these issues, and we offer it here at The Spa at South Lake in Clermont, FL.
How Quickly Does Botox Southlake Start Working?
Botox Southlake can take a bit of time to relax muscles, which means that results may not be noticed for at least two weeks, though most patients can expect to see the full effects by the second or third week. It’s also not uncommon for some patients to start noticing the effects within the first week. While the medication goes to work immediately to reduce muscle contractions, any acetylcholine that was circulating in the body before treatment can delay these effects.
Of the many factors that can affect how quickly this therapy works, your stress levels before treatment have an effect, because stress often leads to higher levels of acetylcholine. So it will take a bit more time for your body to deplete any acetylcholine that is influencing your muscles at the time of treatment. Other factors that can play a role include your skin type, your metabolism, and how prominent your lines or wrinkles are.
How Does This Therapy Work?
Botox Southlake is a medication used to relax facial muscles, as it can effectively inhibit the release of acetylcholine, a protein that plays a role in muscle contractions. Very small amounts of this medication are used to paralyze targeted muscles in the face, which can lead to improvements in one’s appearance by reducing the visibility of both lines and wrinkles.
With older age, our bodies produce less collagen, and this is one of the main reasons why lines and wrinkles become more noticeable as we get older. Luckily, this therapy also offers collagen-stimulating properties, which can lead to smoother, softer skin, and this can also help to reduce the appearance of many tell-tale aging signs.
What Should I Expect During Treatment?
During your consultation, we’ll examine your muscles so that we can gauge the perfect amount of medication to use for each one, and we’ll want to know about your aesthetic goals just to ensure that this is the right treatment for you. If you’re taking any medications that might be unsafe with injections, such as blood thinners, then you may need to speak to your prescribing doctor beforehand to see if you can safely stop taking these.
Treatment Process
The treatment process is a quick one that normally takes less than 15 to 20 minutes, and many patients are finished even sooner than that. How long it takes will depend on whether we’re treating a single area or multiple areas and how many injections each muscle needs, as everybody has different muscle tone. Many of our patients have described the injections as feeling like small pinprick sensations, so it’s a relatively painless process.
Will I Have To Rest After My Appointment?
With Botox Southlake therapy, there’s no downtime, so you won’t have to worry about taking time off from work or resting after your treatment session. We will, however, recommend that you avoid touching the treated areas and any strenuous exercise for the first two or three days, and don’t lie down on your face for the first five hours. Doing any of these can cause the medication to disperse outside of the treated muscles, which can weaken its overall effects.
How Long Will the Effects Last?
The effects of this medication will typically last for at least three to four months, at which point you might notice some of your lines and wrinkles gradually becoming more visible again. Once this happens, you can return for another treatment session, though some patients may not need to return for at least five to six months.
The effects can sometimes last longer for those who have slower metabolisms or who have been receiving Botox Southlake injections for more than two years. If you’ve been living with stress for a long time, your muscles may have adapted to this where they constantly remain tense. With repeated injections, they can sometimes relearn how to relax, and when this occurs, the results can last much longer after each session.
How Often Can I Get Treatments?
How often you decide to return for more injections is entirely up to you, though you’ll normally need to wait at least a few months to see how effective each treatment session is. Most patients shouldn’t need to return until the third or fourth month after treatment, which is when the effects typically wear off, especially for those who have been receiving treatments for less than a year.
With time and repeated injections, many of our patients have noticed a residual effect where they are seeing the results lasting much longer, with many enjoying the benefits of this therapy for at least five months before having to return again. This is a common phenomenon where the muscles are often overactive when starting treatment and gradually become more responsive to the medication as they relax over time.

Will Botox Prevent Facial Expressions?
A common misconception about Botox and other injectables that use botulinum toxin is that they can “freeze” or paralyze facial muscles to the point where a person can’t smile, frown, or make other facial expressions. While this medication can relax muscles, we use conservative amounts and it shouldn’t affect your ability to make facial expressions. You’ll still be able to make all the same facial expressions that you always have, though your face will likely feel much more relaxed after doing so.
What Areas of the Face Can I Have Treated?
Because this therapy is versatile in how it can be used, we’re able to treat many different areas of the face. Some of the more common areas that we regularly treat are as follows:
Across the Forehead
The forehead is a common area for deep, long, horizontal lines to appear, which we refer to as glabellar lines. This treatment can relax the giant frontalis muscle that is responsible for these lines, leading to tighter-looking skin and a younger appearance.
Between the Eyebrows
You may have vertical lines between both eyebrows, which run vertically and are known as frown lines, though some call them “11 lines” because they run parallel to each other. A few different muscles can contribute to these lines, and luckily, we can treat all of them.
Around the Eyes
Squint lines, which are often called “crow’s feet,” are the fine lines that branch out near the outer corners of both eyes. These lines are known for responding very well to this therapy, and in many cases, the results can last well over four months.
Throughout the Chin
When the muscles around your chin area become hyperactive, it can cause a condition known as chin dimpling, which is where the chin starts to appear rougher in texture. In many cases, this therapy can be highly effective in treating chin dimpling as well.
Near the Mouth
Whether you have lines just above your upper lip or on either side of your mouth, this therapy may be able to treat these issues in a single session. We regularly treat lipstick and marionette lines, which are the nicknames for these two types of lines found near the mouth.
Other Areas
Of course, those above are just some of the more common facial areas that we regularly treat. We’re always able to treat other areas, and we can determine during your consultation whether an area is treatable and how you might benefit from this therapy.
