Spider Vein Removal: What You Should Know
Is It Permanent?
Spider vein removal treatments, when they are performed by experts who know what they’re doing, are 100% permanent. Once your spider veins have been eradicated using a removal treatment, those veins will be unable to re-form. You may only need repeat treatments if you have severe spider veins that cannot be fully eradicated in a single session or if you have new spider veins forming.
How Quickly Will Treatment Results Appear?
Depending on your unique set of circumstances and how severe or large your veins are, it may take upwards of six weeks to see the full extent of your results. This is on the extreme side, however, as most of our patients typically find they can begin seeing their results anywhere from three to six weeks following their appointment session.
Some of our patients who are particularly responsive to the treatment begin to notice slight changes mere hours after their appointment. Regardless of when you see your initial results, the full results will always appear gradually in the weeks that follow your appointment.
When Should I NOT Receive This Treatment?
If you have serious or chronic medical conditions like autoimmune disorders or cancer, it’s best to seek alternative treatment options. The same can be said for patients who are unable to move around freely, as walking frequently is necessary following treatment. Although our treatments are not invasive enough to cause pregnancy complications or affect the baby, it’s still best to refrain from undergoing this treatment until after your baby is born.
What Does Ideal Candidacy Look Like?
Ideal candidates are anyone in relatively good health who experiences physical and/or emotional discomfort as a result of their damaged veins. Our treatments are safe for any skin type and are great alternatives for people who were previously exempt from candidacy for more invasive procedures.
No matter which vein removal treatment you choose, we’ll closely inspect your damaged veins, perform a basic physical exam, and talk with you about your personal and familial health history. This will give us a definitive answer on your candidacy.
At-Home Treatment
The idea that you can fix damaged veins on your own at home is a myth, but there are things you can do to both enhance the results of your treatment with us and prevent future damaged veins from forming. You can make sure you get regular exercise to improve your blood flow and circulation by performing workouts like cycling on stationary or recumbent bikes.
Make efforts to avoid sitting or standing for elongated periods of time by ensuring you’re moving around at least every hour. When you do sit down, try to make a habit of elevating your legs above heart level with a footrest to prevent the blood from pooling into your legs. You can invest in some compression stockings for increased circulation, as these can also help with pain management.
Our Methods for Removing Spider Veins
Vasculaze
We chose this treatment because it’s one of the most comfortable vein removal treatments for our patients thanks to its painless and noninvasive nature. Vasculaze involves an ergonomic handheld device that administers precise laser energy. This laser has been meticulously manufactured to penetrate just deep enough to target the damaged veins and the hemoglobin, which is what’s responsible for the dark and noticeable coloring of the patient’s damaged veins.
Once the laser targets them, the hemoglobin’s pigments gradually break up and dissipate, while the damaged veins are destroyed to prevent them from being able to hold blood. This forces your blood to travel elsewhere to your healthy veins, and the lack of blood in the damaged veins causes them to shrink and disappear over time.
Sclerotherapy
This is one of the most popular treatments for damaged vein removal, and it’s had years to perfect its craft. Sclerotherapy involves small minimally invasive injections placed directly into your damaged veins. The solution sclerotherapy uses involves a substance that irritates the target veins and forces them to swell in order to cut off blood flow and lessen the patient’s pain. Once the blood supply is cut off, the culprit veins will shrink gradually.
Understanding Your Veins
What’s the Difference Between Varicose and Spider Veins?
Spider veins are a smaller and less severe version of varicose veins. Spider veins typically form within capillaries otherwise known as the body’s network of blood vessels. These spider veins normally don’t cause significant pain or discomfort, but are a nuisance all the same because of the insecurities they cause in those who suffer from them.
Varicose veins are large damaged veins that form from blood vessels, typically those in the legs. Just like spider veins, varicose veins are noticeable on the surface of the skin and can cause embarrassment to those who have them. Varicose veins, however, also come with significant discomfort. Patients may feel burning sensations, aches, and cramps from these damaged veins.
Why Do Damaged Veins Develop?
Damaged veins are incredibly common, especially in those over the age of 40. Some people develop them because of lifestyle choices, but others are prone to them simply because of genetics. The reason damaged veins become more likely the older we get is because our tissues are weaker and our blood vessels aren’t as efficient at carrying blood throughout our bodies. You may have damaged veins if you are overweight, inactive, or sit/stand for long periods.
