Dr. Maria Alejandra Acosta joins South Lake OB GYN after completing her OB GYN residency at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies, one of the largest and busiest women’s hospitals in the country. She is eager to join this practice and provide care to the women of Lake County. This diverse community will allow her to utilize her ability to speak multiple languages and reach out to patients from various cultural backgrounds.
Dr. Acosta is originally from Bogota, Colombia and moved to Naples, FL with her family when she was 11 years old. Having been exposed to poverty and high demand for quality healthcare in her native country, she has always had a passion for serving others. While in in college, she realized her love for science and her aspiration to serve were perfectly paired through the art of medicine. Once in medical school, she knew very early on she would be most fulfilled training as an obstetrician/gynecologist.
Residency has provided her the tools to handle the most complex patients within the obstetric and gynecologic fields. She has received extensive training in managing high risk pregnancies and is proficient in performing minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
She is excited to be joining Dr. Casavant and Dr. Kerpsack in August 2016.
